Antique French brûlot cup from Porcelaine de Valentine - late 1800s
Beautiful and rare brûlot cup from Porcelaine de Valentine, Saint-Gaudens, dating to the late 1800s. The cup has a patinated pink pattern on both handle and body that emphasizes its age and charm. Price is per piece.
Brûlot cups were used for a special tradition in the south of France, where evening coffee was given an extra spice: black coffee mixed with a hint of cognac in the cup. In the saucer, sugar cubes dipped in cognac were placed and ignited. The flames heated the coffee and when they burned out, the rest was poured into the cup - a dramatic and flavorful end to a meal.
