Antique French brûlot cup from Porcelaine de Valentine – late 19th century
Beautiful and rare brûlot cup from Porcelaine de Valentine, Saint-Gaudens, dating back to the late 19th century. The cup features a patinated pink pattern on both the handle and the body, which emphasizes its age and charm. The price is per piece.
Brûlot cups were used for a special Southern French tradition, where the evening coffee was given an extra kick: black coffee mixed with a drop of cognac in the cup. Sugar cubes dipped in cognac were placed in the saucer and set alight. The flames heated the coffee, and once they had burned out, the remainder was poured into the cup – a dramatic and flavorful end to a meal.
