Why choose steel ice bowls

A steel ice bowl is a safe choice – for restaurants, cafés, and private homes alike. The stainless steel ensures that the ice stays cold for longer, and the material is both durable and easy to clean. For professionals, it makes daily service easier, and for private individuals, it means less hassle and more enjoyment.

Many of our models are classic stainless steel ice bowls, inspired by the French bistro style. They are ideal for serving champagne, wine, soft drinks, or ice cream desserts. A good ice bowl maintains the temperature, enhances the serving, and adds a discreet elegance to the table.

STEEL ICE BOWLS

The French classic! You see it in bistros, cafés, and restaurants all over Denmark – and for good reason.
Steel ice cream bowls are robust, durable

and suitable for both professional service and at home in the kitchen. They are available in several sizes and shapes, depending on whether you want a classic dessert bowl or a larger serving bowl for parties and gatherings.

One of the most popular models is our Letang & Remy Paris ice cream bowl with its characteristic stripes and elegant stem. It measures 8 cm in height and 8 cm in diameter – perfect for two scoops of ice cream or a small dessert serving.

A little tip: Place the ice cream bowl in the freezer for a few minutes before serving. The cold steel keeps the ice cream cold for longer and provides the perfect serving.

Benefits of steel ice cream bowls: dishwasher, freezer, and daily use safe.

ICE BOWLS IN SILVER PLATE & SILVER-PLATED

The French silver-plated ice bowls have a special character – they are elegant, often with a little more weight and fine details.

They vary in shape and size, and each one bears traces of where it has been used.

Silver plate is made with a metal core, often brass or copper, and then coated with silver. This gives a different luster and a more refined expression than steel, while the metal keeps the ice cold for a long time – ideal for ice cream desserts, sorbet, and champagne.

These ice bowls have traditionally been used in hotels, bistros, and French homes. Today, they are used both professionally and decoratively.

They can be polished to a high shine or left with a light patina – depending on the look you prefer.

GLASS ICE CREAM BOWLS

Glass ice cream bowls are decorative and timeless.

They are available in clear and colored shades and provide an opportunity to highlight the colors and texture of your dessert.

A glass ice cream bowl is perfect for ice cream, sorbet, fruit, or small appetizers – the classic stemmed cocktail shape is still the most popular.

Glass is easy to clean, usually dishwasher safe, and provides a light, elegant look.

For cafés and restaurants, they are an obvious choice for dessert service, while in private homes they work beautifully as dessert bowls or serving bowls for ice cream.

FAQ - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT ICE BOWLS

Isskåle - Coupe a Glace

How many scoops of ice cream can fit in an ice cream bowl?

Most of our standard ice cream bowls fit 2 scoops of ice cream perfectly. Larger models can hold 3–5 scoops. Our best-selling model is what we call a standard size; 8 cm in diameter in the bowl itself. The large models we have are up to 12 cm in diameter when they are steel ice cream bowls. Ice cream bowls in silver plate or silver-plated material can easily have larger diameters.

Which material should I choose?

Stainless steel is the most robust and is dishwasher and freezer safe. This makes them ideal for both everyday use and festive occasions. They also pair very well with other steel products, such as serving trays.

Glass provides a light and elegant look, while silver plate brings luxury to the table setting, but also requires a polishing cloth every now and then to maintain its shiny appearance.

Can ice cream bowls be used for anything other than ice cream?

Yes! They are also well-suited for snacks like olives, nuts, and chips – or for appetizers like a classic prawn cocktail.

Ice cream bowls - even though they are called coupe à glace - are also used as champagne coupes. So, only your imagination sets the limits for what you can use an ice cream bowl for. It doesn't just have to be ice cream!

What is the best way to clean ice bowls?

Steel and glass ice bowls are dishwasher safe. Silver-plated items should be polished to maintain their shine - and we recommend polishing with a gentle silver cleaner, such as Silvo. It can be found in most supermarkets.

We have created a small guide on how to care for, maintain, and clean your vintage products. And if you are still in doubt, please contact us.

Are ice cream bowls sold individually or in sets?

At Fransk Brocante, we sell ice cream bowls individually, so you don't have to buy 6 identical ones, for example – you can easily buy a single one or mix and match different ones to suit the look you want.

If we have run out of the model you have purchased and you would like more, please contact us and we will go on the hunt for more for you.

Can the ice cream bowls be stacked into a tower?

Yes! It might sound like a strange question, but it is actually one we get very often. Perhaps because our shop window display features stacked ice cream bowls - but not all models are represented there.

Most of the models can be stacked, but since these are vintage products, there can be slight variations in the bowls, and therefore we recommend that you test it in the store, or you write to us and we will find the number you need - and stack them beforehand to ensure that they are stackable.
